About Us

The Division of Occupational Psychology is part of the British Psychological Society.

The Division has three main aims:

  • to develop the practice of occupational psychology
  • to promote high standards of professional competence and behaviour among occupational psychologists - this entails protecting the public from abuses of the subject
  • to increase public awareness of occupational psychology for the advantage of individuals and organisations
A distinctive feature of OP is that it is centred on scientific research and rooted in rigorous academic discipline. The tools and solutions which OP offers in the marketplace have therefore been developed through objective, evidence-based research often carried out within an academic framework. This means we know what works and why, ensuring that if approaches from one context are used in another, we clearly know whether they will work.
