Maximising Interpersonal Relationships: FIRO Element B (European English Edition, 2003) Accreditation
Facilitators
John Cooper and Sarah Speers
Who should attend
This workshop is suitable for people who have experience of giving psychometric feedback to clients or for people experienced in coaching. It is of particular value to people working in development situations. No prior knowledge of FIRO theory is needed, but references are available for people who wish to read more about FIRO prior to attending.
Workshop overview
This workshop will introduce FIRO theory and explain Schutz’s Human Element methodology. It will also lead to accreditation in the new 2003 European English Edition of FIRO Element B, the tool that looks at the behaviour level of the Human Element model. FIRO Element B is a revised and expanded version of the well known FIRO B™ and JCA hold the exclusive distribution rights to the 2003 European English version. Participants will be equipped with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes to apply the instrument in coaching and team development.
The workshop will involve the participants in learning about FIRO theory in a very experiential way. There will be interactive group sessions to involve participants in really thinking deeply about the elements involved in behaviour and their personal preferences. In addition, there will be some theory and an introduction to the methodology. Participants should be aware that there will be both pre- and post-course work to complete. Before the workshop we ask that participants complete FIRO Element B online, which will take between 20 and 30 minutes. After the workshop, if participants wish to become accredited in FIRO Element B, there is a portfolio of evidence to complete. This involves answering questions on the tool and practicing feeding back FIRO Element B results.
Aims of the workshop
- To give participants an overview of FIRO theory and specific knowledge of FIRO Element B.
- Participants will become proficient in the application of FIRO Element B to organisational settings for both individuals and teams.
Projected outcomes and benefits of attending
On completion of the workshop and a portfolio of evidence, participants will become qualified to use the latest, most up-to-date version of FIRO Element B (European English Edition). Successful participants will then be registered to purchase materials from JCA (Occupational Psychologists) Ltd.
Psychological theory underpinning the workshop
The underpinning theory of FIRO Element B is FIRO theory (Schutz, 1958) created by Will Schutz. It states that there are three interpersonal need areas: inclusion, control and openness, which dictate interpersonal behaviour. Using these three areas it is theoretically possible to predict the success of interpersonal relationships.
Pre/post work required
Before the workshop we ask that participants complete FIRO Element B online, which will take 20-30 minutes. On completion of an additional core study portfolio participants will become registered users of FIRO Element B with JCA (Occupational Psychologists) Ltd, sole distributors of the latest version of FIRO Element B (European English Edition, 2003) developed in conjunction with BCon WSA. The portfolio will consist of worksheets and two written reports on FIRO Element B profiles, which should take participants approximately three hours to complete.
