Ronny Lardner & Richard Scaife, the current Occupational Psychology Practitioners of the Year, will showcase their winning submission, "Understanding and Influencing Safety Behaviour To Reduce Workplace Accidents", at the DOP’s annual conference in Bristol next week.

Lardner & Scaife, who work at the Keil Centre in Edinburgh, carried out the prize-winning project for multinational energy provider, BP and UK rail engineering contractor, Balfour Beatty. Whilst safety levels in these hazardous industries are already high, the clients wanted to focus on identifying improvements which could contribute to eliminating all incidents. Lardner & Scaife developed a set of human factors analysis tools based on applied behaviour analysis and cognitive information processing, which could be rolled-out to incident investigators worldwide.

The Occupational Psychology Practitioner of the Year Award was presented at a ceremony in September 2006, where Lardner & Scaife’s entry beat off the challenge of four other short-listed finalists. The award recognises the practical application of occupational psychology theory to deliver value to organisations

Lardner & Scaife will talk in detail about their winning project at 11.50am on Friday 12th January at the Bristol Marriott Hotel - the third day of the Division of Occupational Psychology’s Annual Conference. The conference provides academics and practitioners with the opportunity to present their work via focused papers, symposia and workshops, and will be attended by over 400 delegates.
